CKY: CARVER CITY
SCORE: 95/100
It's clear that this album doesn't quite have the same grit as their previous projects, but it manages to hit just the same. 'Carver City' has a more modernized sound (for the time period that the album came out in) while still keeping the band's edge, and the performances here are as heavy as you would want them to be.
'Carver City' feels like a very nice blend of their previous two projects, but it isn't quite as memorable as their other bodies of work due to there not being any real "big" songs on this album like their other albums had. It follows the same structure that 'An Ă…nswer Can Be Found' when it comes to the songs being consistent (without there being many standout tracks by name in particular, which isn't a bad thing in CKY's case), but the sound of the project style wise is more similar to 'Infiltrate•Destroy•Rebuild' due to its heavier edge.
This album manages to exceed expectations in terms of sound by a longshot. It keeps the same amount of spark that their previous projects had, and it's clear that the band was still doing very well together artistically at this point into their discography. Although it isn't quite as remarkable as their other albums, it's more than worthwhile for fans of the band looking for more outside of their first three, more recognizable projects.
I wasn't expecting 'Carver City' to be such an underrated gem of an album, and it sounds exactly how you would want a CKY project to sound. Although their sound is a bit different on a technical scale here, the energy that they have is still well-kept. Going back to their heavier, edgier sound worked well for the band on this album, and it's a solid return to form.
It might not be quite as memorable as their other projects, but it is deeply and consistently solid. It's a highly enjoyable project, and it feels well-catered to fans of the band looking for more of a return to their roots. It has a more modern tinge than their other albums, but this doesn't drag their sound down as much as it could've.
'Carver City' has the same consistency as their previous works; although it isn't quite as groundbreaking as their previous works, it feels like another album that uniquely belongs to the band. There are some moments of experimentation that provide breaths of fresh air into the band's discography, and it's another fine victory lap for CKY.
