HORSEGIIRL: V.I.P. - VERY IMPORTANT PONY
horsegiirL showcases her impressive production talents alongside FREE JIMI, making for an impressive EP that gives the masses some nice palatable dance music with a bit more edge than what you might be hearing on the radio. It isn't the most impressive EP overall and the vocals need some work - and I think horsegiirL's production being used with a more talented vocalist would do her wonders since it would show off her real strong suit.
It's refreshing to see some experimental electronic music being released in the early months of 2025, with subgenres like gabber and future house being thrown in the mix and 'eat, sleep, slay, 🔁' being an incredible usage of the gabber genre in a more modern pop diva setting. If she stuck to a similar sound that was present on that track it would lead to an overall more enjoyable and well-rounded project; and she shows a huge amount of potential for still being in the earlier stages of her career.
Despite some unfortunate vocal performances, the production here is stellar. It shows a huge amount of promise for horsegiirL as a producer specifically, and this particular project really shows all sides of the coin when it comes to her musical style. It's a great introduction to her as an artist, and I look forward to seeing what direction she chooses to go in.
It flip-flops a little too much, but it works in most cases and it comes together very well; with the tracks feeling more like they would work as standalone singles rather than the somewhat odd sequence they take on throughout the short runtime of the EP.
