LIMP BIZKIT: SIGNIFICANT OTHER
SCORE: 88/100
Limp Bizkit... one of my previous favorite bands and a band that I find to be criminally underrated without any doubts about it. This album in particular has most of their best material and a handful of some of the best nu-metal tracks within the entirety of the genre. They have their established style without taking themselves too seriously in most cases - making their cooky and somewhat abrasive style come off much better than it does for some other bands that tried to go in the same direction.
I'm surprised to see the bad rep that this album has on this site (AOTY) since it's been an album that I have loved for many years now - with it alongside other nu-metal albums being a driving force in the eventual change and personal nu-metal boom that my music taste went through years ago now. The songs do lack technical substance in the lyrical content in particular, but the songs are fun and so well produced that it makes the album a force of its own.
Each song sounds different from the last - from the heavy riffs to the catchy choruses and breakdowns, 'Significant Other' is one of the most versatile fun and jam-packed albums you can get. It's an absolute nu-metal essential despite the scores being mostly on the lower end, and it's an album you should at least give a chance if you're into some goodhearted fun rock; this album is full of it.
Whether it's incredible features or stunning guitarwork, 'Significant Other' packs more of a punch than one might think the band is capable of - this was Limp Bizkit at their absolute highest points, and songs like 'Break Stuff' and 'Nookie' will forever cement their legacy as the band that people love to hate.
Unfortunately the album does take a bit of a dip near the end (with the last few songs in particular), but it keeps a strong level of consistency with the first half especially.
