MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS: ゼロコンマ、色とりどりの世界

SCORE: 89/100

An instantaneously enjoyable and delightful return to form for the band, MOTFD's second full-length LP is one you simply can't miss. It's a shame how music like this often remains undetected from wider audiences due to it being in Japanese rather than English, but the Japanese rock scene can almost be better than Western rock a lot of the time - with MOTFD being a prime example of the sheer ambition and wonder of J-Rock when it is done right.

The instrumentals and vocal performances mix and come together to create a project that is both unique and exciting - with each element coming together into one explosive album full of colour and artistic prowess. MOTFD manage to be a perfect encapsulation of what J-Rock should sound like at its core, mixing different elements and soundscapes to produce lively and noisy rock songs that come together into incredibly powerful and fun albums. The short runtimes of their albums make their discography incredibly palatable and easy to get through - with each album offering something new. The only real issue I have with their projects (this one included) is that the songs are great, but they aren't things that will stick in my head in most cases, with the tracks being more of a one-and-done scenario a lot of the time. Despite this, the album as a whole is so incredibly well worthwhile and well put together, with each song being different from the last and even more explosive at every turn - 'ゼロコンマ、色とりどりの世界' is a must if you are looking for something new.

'ゼロコンマ、色とりどりの世界' shifts at every turn and makes itself wickedly entertaining, with a presence that simply can not be denied, it may be the best album in their catalogue. Every element comes together wonderfully and each track is something so different from the last, with each and every song being a step ahead of the last - making the album exciting for its runtime and making it worthwhile if you're looking for something short & delightfully unique.
