CKY: INFILTRATE•DESTROY•REBUILD
SCORE: 100/100
'Infiltrate•Destroy•Rebuild' is widely considered to be CKY's best project - gaining acclaim for the band after they polished up their style from 'Volume 1' and added more substance to their already pristine sound. The tracks pack the same amount of punch as the starters of their debut while keeping a more consistent tone and energy to the album and experimenting more with genre-hopping.
It's a more consistent project when compared to their debut - an impressive feat when considering how cohesive their debut managed to be. It's clear that the band worked together very well at this still-early point in their career, and the musical direction of this album is considerably impressive and more full of depth than their previous work.
The songs manage to keep up the same pace and stay on the same level while each individual member of the four-piece band is showcases throughout the layered and stunning compositions of each track. The instrumental performances are all deeply unique while keeping a general soundscape that feels true to the band, with the guitar and drum work both standing out and making the album as good as it is.
Every element of the album comes together into something much bigger - making for a deeply entertaining and underappreciated gem of a rock album that showcases the sheet force that CKY was capable of both musically and culturally. Despite becoming bigger at this point (while still being somewhat niche) the band kept their old style and expanded upon it to make an album that feels like a rising force and a more polished continuation of their debut.
The slower songs still fit in with the general sound of the album; making this project stick out from their previous work more as it is a more consistent project overall that doesn't start to lose its footing at the last half like 'Volume 1' unfortunately suffered from. 'Infiltrate•Destroy•Rebuild' overall feels like an expansion on everything that was great about their first album without the two sounding too similar to one another.
'Infiltrate•Destroy•Rebuild' is without a doubt the essential album in CKY's catalogue, and it's more than worth a listen if you're into alternative metal/different rock subgenres. It's a huge mix and match of subgenres that comes together into an album that packs one big punch - an album that is deeply consistent at its core and that keeps up the same sense of style and quality throughout its short & enjoyable runtime.
