GRIM: THE DEATH OF A CAPULET

SCORE: 60/100

Rap albums like this are something I never really come to - and this album was something I knew I wasn't going to be huge on right off the bat. I tried to hear it out a bit but the slow, mumbly sound of the vocal performances stop the project from really going anywhere that isn't highly surface-level at its core. There isn't much for me to love about an album like this, but the production is nice and somewhat atmospheric for what it is.

The tracks are somewhat eerie in their compositions - giving the project an interesting and highly unique atmosphere despite being in a genre I'm not a fan of. Despite my grief with the overall elements of the album, the idea is there and it's done well enough to make the album interesting. It'll probably be one of the most interesting projects of 2025 that I have heard due to its clear oddity status, and the production does make it more worthwhile than it would be without it.

Luckily enough for this album it knows when to stop. Almost every song is under 3 minutes, giving the album an overall short runtime that does it favours in the end. If this project were any longer it would be more of a drag than it already winds up being - and the 2 minute songs drag due to the slow sound of the project.

This project doesn't really have anything that of note within it - and it muddles together within just three tracks. There isn't a lot to be had with the album, and it lets itself drag on its own two feet despite having an accessible runtime. There's a striking lack of standout elements and variety - with all of the songs blending into one muddy album full of inaudible lyrics and over-edited vocals that turn into nothing but a pile of mumbles.

It manages to get more boring as the time goes on; and its safe to say that this album might not be one of the many to be released so far this year that are worthwhile. It's never a good sign when your 25 minute album feels longer than a 40 minute album, and I managed to be doing things in the background with this album on it still felt like it was dragging on.
