VARIOUS ARTISTS: HAGGARD
SCORE: 98/100
I've seen Haggard three times now - twice on my own and once with company, and I can safely say that it's a movie best watched with other people. I found a new love for the movie when I watched it for my third time - not that I wasn't fond of it the first times, but there was something different about the last time I watched it that made me appreciate it even more. The film itself is a clear Bam Margera passion project - using his signature bright colouring, high-energy editing, and shots that just have his name written all over it. Every single person in the film is in their own element here - with each and every one of them doing the things they do best within the film. It has everything you would expect from a full-length Bam film, and it does it well. The soundtrack is a huge reflection of the style, different tones, and overall aesthetics of the film - it's packed full of bands that Bam has openly loved for years, with HIM taking the forefront of the soundtrack and the films' aesthetics.
It's a true delight when a soundtrack is as memorable and as full of hidden gems as this one - and this is easily one of the most enjoyable movie soundtracks I have heard recently. The film is so driven by Bam's interests and his music taste, and this soundtrack is almost more reflective of his style at the time than the 'Viva La Bands' CDs. This album is an absolute must for any fans of HIM, the film, or any of the bands within the soundtrack - and the variety in the songs keeps the album highly entertaining and worthwhile.
It goes without saying that this soundtrack is all over the place - for a film that is so packed full of odd moments, it's no wonder that the soundtrack helps to push that further. The film is so driven by the music it has within it, and the overall feel of this album as a whole is one full of so much fun - so many different tones are put into the film and it shows with the masterful music choices that are scattered throughout.
From Gnarkill all the way to New Order, this album has something for everyone. The shifts in tone may seem somewhat bizarre - but they work better than anyone could ever expect them to. There's something truly special about this soundtrack in particular - and it's such a fun album full of so much incredible variety.
