'Odelay' is an album that builds heavily off of atmosphere alongside the depth of the sounds present on the record. It's a sickly sweet project that feels like a hot summer day in the sun, laying in the grass with a drink in hand as the music helps to ease you into a summery bliss that can only be achieved for a few months of the long and winding year. There's a woozy and almost surreally sweetening sound to this album - and it's one that couldn't be replicated by anyone even if they tried.

Beck is an artist that I've known about for years, but he was never one that I got around to listening to until now. 'Odelay' instantaneously starts on an incredibly high note that sets the tone and expectations for the album incredibly well. It has a much more laid back and tipsy sound than expected - and it feels like a completely immersing experience of an album that will rope you in immediately.

There's an instant sense of charisma and charm within 'Odelay' - a type of charm that only Beck could pull off. This album has a sound you truly won't find anywhere else, and the mixed uniqueness and blending of different styles & genres makes this album feel as if it has a style of its own; and in all honesty? It does.

The atmosphere of the album is everchanging, and it makes for one wild ride that is more than worth the experience. Beck showcases all sides of his personality and wonky artistry on 'Odelay', and it feels like a massively comprehensive introduction to him for a full experience of what he has to offer.

'Odelay' covers just about any and every mood while keeping a consistent sound throughout. Although a little lengthy, the album is well worth its runtime and it has some songs that showcase what makes Beck such an incredible artist. His personal style and quirky personality show through heavily on this album - and the way he put this project together is highly interesting and entertaining.

You won't find any other album that mixes genres quite like 'Odelay' does, and it's a project that showcases so much genuine creativity and fun it'll make your head spin.

My very own "brown cookies" were a product of experimentation done for a foods course that I am currently enrolled in. SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE: FRESH

SCORE: 87/100 Sly and the Family Stone are a band with undoubtable and undeniable charm, with Sly Stone being one of the most unique frontmen to ever grace the music industry with his quirky vocal performances and pacing alongside the delightful instrumentation led by the rest of the band, 'Fresh' indeed still sounds fresh decades after its initial release. The album is delightfully funky and wonderfully fun, with the tracks coming together to make a consistent and enjoyable project that is well worth its 39 minute runtime, 'Fresh' is an absolute gem in the funk genre that is far too overlooked when compared to other similar albums. 'Fresh' works best as a all-in-one-go album, with the tracks feeling more like they work on the album than they would outside of the general context of the album. DEFTONES: GORE

DEFTONES: GORE SCORE: 89/100 A shorter and less favored album for many, Deftones' 2016 albums hits the right spots and returns to the form found throughout their 2006 opus 'Saturday Night Wrist'.  For many, 'Gore' manages to be the weakest effort in the deeply complex and delightful discography of the band. It is a less praised album overall - which I was immediately confused by upon playing the first track. The album has the same complexity as their other projects - having a more modern sound and using different soundscapes to make the album unique from their other projects while still keeping the cohesion of their albums up to par.  It's a striking comeback that engulfs their discography with more heavy & scenic tracks, with each song having a different sound than the last and the album coming together quite well.
