THE STOOGES: FUN HOUSE

SCORE: 90/100

'Fun House' takes everything that made The Stooges' first album so great and expands on it in a way that makes this project stand out even more than their first. It takes the stages of development they needed to make a more consistent and engaging project while continuing to branch out into different subgenres throughout.

There are some slight mixing issues that are apparent on 'T.V. Eye', but the album itself is highly consistent and deeply enjoyable throughout its runtime. There are some very incredible instrumental performances and it's clear that The Stooges were unlike any other band releasing music during the 60s & 70s.

The songs are textured and heavy, with more depth and layering than their first album that takes away the hollow core and replaces it with more edge. It has more groove and rhythm than their previous body of work, with more consistency and a lack of any songs that AREN'T worthwhile.

It's an album that deserves to be listened to front-to-back due to how well it flows together, all of the songs coming together into one large-scale picture that you couldn't get by listening to the songs out of order. It relies on atmosphere and stunning instrument work, making it a gorgeous project that feels like another absolute rock essential.

Outside of some clear mixing issues, 'Funhouse' is another striking rock essential that you simply cannot miss out on. It's one of the best rock albums of the 70s without a doubt, and it's clear that The Stooges knew what they wanted to do when crafting an album - and they did it well. It has more weak moments than their debut, but the highs are more frequent and more intense here than they are on their debut.
