TOLD NOT TO WORRY: HANDS IN THE AIR!
SCORE: 90/100
Nothing could've prepared me for the intensity of 'Hands in the Air!', it's a project in genres that I am mostly unfamiliar with - and to call this an incredible introduction would almost be an understatement. The hard, unrestrained sound of this album is something that will make it one of the most memorable projects of the year by an artist that is far from a big name (although I hope to see them become bigger because this is an incredible album).
The raw power held by this album is something you simply cannot beat, the instrumentals and vocals are both insanity in the best way possible; and this project comes together into one album that explodes the second it takes off. It's impossible to ignore, and it's a driving force that you simply won't want to end.
It's a fast-paced album that comes and goes in an instant, making it an instantly entertaining and enjoyable listen that uses its ten-minute runtime to absolute masterclass levels of album structuring. The sound is messy, yet coherent and grounded - it's intense and rough, but it has a clear sense of direction and a slight polish that gives it a sheen that holds it above other similar-natured projects.
'Hands in the Air!' does take a bit of a dip with the last couple of moments on the album, but it stays mainly consistent apart from 'I Killed Barbie' being the weaker track of the album and 'Jane Is A Werewolf!' not being quite as enjoyable as the rest. Apart from some minor scuffs in the album here and there, it's an incredibly consistent album when it comes to quality - and it gives sheer quality over quantity.
Once this album kicks off it's impossible to stop its harshness, it'll pull you by your hair and won't ease up until it's over - and it does this in the most exciting way possible. It's hard to describe an album so noisy and careless; but it makes noisiness and carelessness seem like the best possible thing to be doing when it comes to abrasive music like this.
